Embracing The Goddess: Belly Dancing Classes

Belly-dance is truly a woman’s artform; an expression of feminine joy, creativity, wisdom, and strength. Not to mention, it’s fun!

The series will start on Tuesday and Wednesday with basic moves, as the dance highlights the different part of the body starting with the head, then goes into your shoulders, arms, chest, belly and ultimately the hips. “We will start with hip lifts, as the hips are a major part of the dance,” explains Adriana,” and move into chest circles, belly roles and snake arms. Next comes the side to side head and neck movements for grace and fluidity.”

Adriana who is also the General Manager of the Smokebrush Foundation in Manitou Springs, will put it all together on Thursday with simple choreography set to music.

She will also give participants a brief history or the origins of the dance. Belly-dance is also a great way to get fit, tone up, and move your body, and Adriana suggests such dance wear as harem pants or yoga pants as well as a belt or hip scarf, and if they are embellished with little bells, “so much the better.”
