Using bold color, energetic brushstrokes and palette knife, Lelia paints the magnificent landscapes of Colorado and beyond. Combining art with her background in wellness, biology and interest in environmental conservation, the focus of her work is to depict endangered land and its fragility, as well as our shared role in maintaining a healthy environment for all of its inhabitants.
Whether touring protected land with conservation groups or hiking solo, Lelia strives to bring awareness on a more intimate level by capturing the waterways essential to each habitat on a micro and macroscopic level. Her depiction of these more intimate, easily missed areas is a metaphor for how their importance can so easily be taken for granted.
Lelia graduated from Trinity University in 1998 where she studied Art and earned her Bachelors in Biology, and later her Bachelors in Nursing at the University of Texas. She continued to pursue her vocation as an artist, and was accepted into the Academy of Art University in San Francisco graduate program to earn her Masters in Fine Art. You can find her painting in her studio majority of the time, or using art to promote mental health with students through CASA and NAMI, and finding artistic inspiration as she hikes and photographs the beautiful scenery just beyond her doorstep.
