Jene' Jackson - 'On My Way To Mother'

Jené Jackson is a photographer, author, speaker, and business owner.

She began using an SLR camera in 8th grade, photographed throughout school, and was a sports photographer in college.

She has shown photos at a few shows but was mostly priced out of photography until her first phone camera in 2012. As her mother’s battle with cancer took a downward turn, photography became a solace in grief and a way to make art from the patterns, light, and textures of the everyday world.

This show tells the story of last summer’s roadtrip to return to her mother’s grave in Tennessee for the first time in ten years.

A simple trip through the South became a journey into grief, trauma, and family as she reconnected with her mom’s 87 year-old brother.

Opening night will also be an official send-off for Jene’s next book project, The Boot by Boot, for which she’s walking the entire length of Italy starting in late September.
