'Labels: Face Value'
Join us at Cottonwood Center for the Arts for a juried collection of artwork based around the concept of labels, as they apply to people and products.
Cottonwood Center for the Arts is excited to present a juried exhibition, composed of artists from across the Pikes Peak region, working across every size and medium within the theme of labels and their application in the arts.
A label is the branding or packaging of a product. Art and design come together to elicit emotional and physical responses about the product behind the label.
From craft beers and spirits to hot sauces, a perfectly labeled bottle can compel our selection as much or more than its contents. This call for entries asks artists to create an actual label for a real or imagined product. Labels may be enlarged for display purposes and must be presented either adhered to a product or appropriately framed and wired. Alternatively, a label can be the way a person or group of people is categorized, defined, or stereotyped.
Unlike product branding, this label is usually negative, describing its target in a limited, narrow, overly simple way. This call for entries asks artists to create work that addresses social labeling. All media will be represented, except for collages made out of actual labels.
