Lecture Series: The History of the Alexander Film Company of Colorado Springs

At one time, the Alexander Film Company was the largest employer in Colorado Springs with over 700 employees in the 1940’s. It was the largest producer of theatrical advertising in the country, and they produced commercials for many of the Fortune 500 companies including all three of the major automobile manufacturers of that era.

The scenic beauty of the Pikes Peak Region made an excellent backdrop for their thousands of commercials. An offshoot of the Alexander Film Company, the Alexander Aircraft Company built the successful Eaglerock biplane, the most popular biplane in the 1920’s.

Steve Antonuccio spent over 30 years working in academic and public libraries to include 20 years at the Pikes Peak Library District managing their educational access cable channel. During his career, he produced over one hundred documentaries related to the local history of the Pikes Peak region.  In 2019, he published an autobiography on his career called “There is No Such Thing as a Typical Librarian.” Since his retirement, he has given several programs in Southern Colorado on the history of the Pikes Peak Region.
