'Linescapes': Brie Varney

About the Exhibit:

Ever move to the right a bit and close your left eye just to see something line up?

If so, this show is for you. I’ve always felt the desire to align things—thoughts, ideas, shapes, etc.

It is like the satisfying click of puzzle pieces snapping into place when things line up just so.

Nature, however, is not so tidy and I’m often awed and overwhelmed by its wild unruliness

. I like to study it, simplify it, and see the connections among the chaos.

I encourage the viewer to see these connections and know that although the world is big, there are always lines tethering us to the ground.

About the Artist:

Brie Varney is an oil painter who uses geometric shapes and lines to explore landscapes and still life subject matter.

Her “stained glass” approach is locally known and is consistent with her need to rationalize and simplify the world.

Brie’s work has been exhibited in several galleries throughout the Colorado Springs area.

Her artistic influences include Vincent van Gogh, Jacoba van Heemskerck, Larisa Aukon, and Piet Mondrian.

She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Art & Design from North Carolina State University.

When she isn’t painting, she enjoys open water swimming, reading, hiking, playing ice hockey, and a good gin and tonic.
