Four Manitou bars and restaurants; The Loop, Manitou Brewing Company, the Keg Bar & Grill, and the Armadillo Ranch will be hosting a bit of ‘South of the Border’ and will be featuring two 4 ounce custom-crafted margarita samplings, Mexican appetizers, and more!
The Keg Bar and Lounge is truly one of those places that always come to mind when you think of Manitou Springs, and will be crafting margaritas made with Suerto Anejo Tequila, accompanied by their Quesadillas Bits, served with Mango and Tomato Salsa.
Perhaps best known for their beers born from the pristine waters located near the top of Pikes Peak, the Manitou Brewery also makes a mean margarita – the Merry crafted with Alemendrado, Cuervo Silver, sweet ’n sour, and lime. Their tasty vegetarian, beef or pork tacos complete the sampling.
The Loop is known for their award-winning margaritas & authentic Mexican food. General Manager and mixologist Amanda Galloway has been with the restaurant for more than 17 years rising from bartender to General Manager and mixologist. “The Loop makes so many different kinds of margaritas, depending upon the tequila we are using and we stock at least thirty different types of tequila on a regular basis,” she says. “Our margarita list is now topping twenty different drinks. We’re really excited to showcase two of our best-selling margaritas including the Pomegranate and traditional Horni.” Food fare will include chips, salsa, queso and beans.
Galloway has been at the Loop for seventeen years and is now the general manager and margarita mixologist there, as she “loves tequila. My husband and I go out for margaritas frequently and I am usually disappointed as most places cut corners with the quality and pour of the tequila. My philosophy is pour them the way you want to drink them. Tequila is almost like wine as it has so many different hints of flavor and subtleties – such as vanilla or citrus, depending on how long it is aged or what type of barrel it is aged in. “Our traditional Horni margarita is made with Triple Sec, an all-natural mix and Hornitos Tequila, which is a great ‘around the house’ tequila. Our second margarita’s is the specialty Pomegranate and uses a really high-quality Pom liquor, with Sauza Silver tequila, and offers a sweet-sour finish to our tasting.”
In addition, Amanda has been bringing aged wooden French or Hungarian barrels of Patron Tequila into The Loop for the last several years, and makes premium margaritas directly from the barrel, not from the bottle, “which is pretty exciting for us and this is tequila you can’t get any place else in town. I also encourage when customers come into the restaurant and there is a special tequila, liquor or mix that they let the bartender know and we will prepare it for them, including smoky, sweet, or even a whiskey margarita.”
The Armadillo Ranch is situated in the heart of downtown Manitou Springs, and is the newest bar, restaurant, and music venue, taking over the longtime Ancient Mariner spot on Manitou Avenue. The Armadillo will be creating two unique margaritas, the Strawberry and Cilantro Lime with Tajin crafted by the Armadillo’s popular craft cocktail creator, Erika Gale. Food samplings include made-from-scratch Margarita Cheesecake and Churros.
