CANCELED: 'Mister Hamlin's List' Book Signing
Book Signing for Stan Moore, author of ‘Mister Hamlin’s List,’ a historical novel set in the Cripple Creek and Victor Mining District during the 1903-1904 Labor Wars.
Meet the Author of Mister Hamlin’s List at the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum.
Wealth, passion, love, and family loyalty all wrapped up in a historical novel about the Cripple Creek & Victor Labor Wars of 1903-04 – Mister Hamlin’s List by Stan Moore will be on sale at a book signing Sunday, May 24, at the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum.
Set in the mining district during times of extremes – both in wealth and disagreement over union labor – the book has some near and dear significance to its author. Moore is the grand nephew of George Henderson, a hard rock miner at the Findley Mine and one of 13 miners who were killed when an explosive device was set off at the Independence Depot June 6, 1904.
Union sympathizers and wealthy mine owners butted heads over wages, hours, and working conditions, in an all too real episode of local history, ending in the tragedy of the bombing of the depot by Harry Orchard. The incident brought to a head the two-year strike with the deportation of more than 200 miners, including the author’s lead character, Ben McNall.
While a fictitious miner, McNall follows the likely paths of thousands as they arrived in Cripple Creek. He meets is true love, a school teacher named Abby and her brother Lon, who becomes a mine owner. McNall works in the mines and becomes a union member. He and Abby are caught up in the throes of the conflict sometimes at odds with Lon but always in sympathy with hard-working miners, and opposed to violent outcomes.
Moore will be on hand May 24 from 2-5 to sign his newest book; other books by the author include Mister Moffat’s Opus, Mister Moffat’s Hill, Mister Moffat’s Road, and Over the Dam.
