'Positive/Negative' & 'Venerable Stones'

In The Bridge Gallery:

Positive space and negative space are basic concepts of making art.  It’s playing with spaces that appear open or closed and how they affect  design.  One does not exist without the other.  “Positive/Negative” is a show with the focus on these two elements.

Invited artists included are Chris Alvarez, Betty Atherton, Deena Bennett, Jana Bussanich, Michael Cellan, Ruth Chandler, Julian Gallop, Christine Lawson, John Lawson, Marc Shereck, Darla Slee, Jeanne Steiner, Robin Wolfe.

In The Commons Gallery:

When you see images of ancient times, often you see mosaics because they stand the “test of time”.  Paint and paper fade, but stone survives.  These Roman and Byzantine mosaics also give us a peek into life and leaders of the time

Artist Pam Farris discovered a love for mosaics 10 years ago.  Over the years her mosaics have diverged into two categories:  historical and conceptual.  The historical mosaics she creates range from the basic aesthetic of the original work to the extreme cutting, shaping and creating her own mortar.

Shows open with a reception on First Friday, February 3, from 5 – 8 p.m.  The shows runs through Saturday, February 25.
