The UCCS Visiting Artists & Critics Series enters its 8th season with a fall lineup of virtual presentations by artists with a goal to foster understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through dialogue and critical conversations. All events are free, but pre-registration is required in order to receive the Zoom webinar link.
The series is co-produced by the UCCS Galleries of Contemporary Art and UCCS Visual Art & Art History programs and has for the past eight years invited artists and scholars of national significance to the campus to present public lectures and meet with UCCS undergraduate students in classes and workshop settings.
‘Seat of Learning,’ by Jane Lackey and Thomas Lehn, is an art installation investigating time, movement, memory, knowledge, and how we learn from material objects. The concept originated when the artists found a vintage school desk that encapsulated 20th-century early learning through its patina, material presence, and history of use.
Gathering stories from a diverse range of individuals and objects from across the western United States and the Pikes Peak region, the artists will present a selection as creative content for the final installation. Lackey and Lehn worked with UCCS students to create the installation, further layering the learning experience embodied by this installation. Join us in virtual conversation with Lackey and Lehn from the Chapman Foundations Recital Hall in the Ent Center for the Arts.
This is a free ONLINE event and we encourage everyone to be a part of it! We do ask that you preregister by visiting this link: https://tinyurl.com/VACSregistration
