ArtSpot Overview

The sidewalks of Downtown Colorado Springs see thousands of passersby on a weekly basis. ArtSpot enhances the pedestrian experience by filling Tejon Street’s flowerpots with locally-made works of art from February–November each year.

Downtown Ventures is seeking new work for ArtSpot from artists who represent the diversity of voices in the Pikes Peak region. Artworks should be resistant to vandalism and weather, and durable enough for several seasons of display. Simple graphic forms and vibrant colors are preferred. Artworks may also reference regional culture and/or history.

Compensation

Artists will be compensated $750 per artwork, so time, materials, transportation and installation costs should be factored accordingly. Artworks will be purchased for the ArtSpot program, with ownership of the work(s) transferred to Downtown Ventures. Name recognition will be given to artists when works are photographed for digital or print display. Artworks will be listed on downtowncs.com and associated digital and print publications.

Specifications

Artwork base must be configured to fit existing ArtSpot planter armatures (detailed specification diagram)
Artworks should be no larger than 48″ in height and 36″ wide
Preference will be given to artworks that are light enough to be moved by two people without additional equipment
Works must be highly durable and able to withstand cold, temperature fluctuations, wind, ice, and snow. Surface finish should be resistant to graffiti and easy to clean/maintain.

Flowers will be installed around the base of the artwork during summer months, so artwork should be impervious to regular waterings.

Eligibility

You may submit a proposal if you are:

A visual artist who creates original work
A resident of the Pikes Peak region (El Paso or Teller counties of Colorado)
