A common obstacle many creatives face is knowing when their piece is done, for fear of overworking it. For this call we are pleased to present you with a stopping point: 60 marks.

Whether you work in 2D or 3D, this open call for entries dictates that the piece must be finished in 60 motions or less - stitches in fabric, brush marks on your canvas or paper, lines in a drawing, etc. Many artists would consider a creation limited in this way a warm up, or sketch. A sketch is when some of the most important information about a piece is communicated to both the viewer and the artist themselves - the moment when an idea is tangibly manifested into visual art.

We are requesting brevity for the sake of refining intention. How much can you say in 60 marks?

Storm, scorch, freeze, flood, explode, electrify, decimate....nature provides stability and cadence to our lives, but has equal power to disrupt and destroy. Our emotions are pushed and pulled in its wake: foreboding, hubris, fear, anguish, then shelter and hope renewed.

This call for entries invites artists to render a natural disaster, communicating physical immensity and depth of feeling. Representational and abstract interpretations will be considered, as well as 2d and 3d mediums. Remember that Immensity can be conveyed at any size.

Water in its many forms can nourish or destroy, fill an aquarium, flood a plain, quench your thirst, thaw, freeze, boil, or evaporate into the air. For this call we are asking artists to examine the nature of water, and its simple beauty as a part of our environment. All styles/mediums will be considered as long as the main subject matter is water, depicted in a thoughtful and deliberate way.
