We are looking for an editor in chief to be responsible for managing the creation of all content for the Colorado Springs Independent, an award-winning newspaper known for excellence in journalism.

The responsibilities of an editor in chief include assigning, editing, writing articles, assigning photographs, contributing editorial pieces, hiring and managing staff and handling day-to-day operations.

To be successful as an editor in chief, you should demonstrate accurate writing skills, possess good judgment, and great attention to detail. Ultimately, a top-notch editor in chief should have good business acumen, creativity, and be able to work well with a team.

Responsibility:

Assigning and editing articles for accuracy, grammar, and style, including your own edit pieces.

Evaluating content and making decisions on appropriateness for the Colorado Springs Independent.

Acting as a representative for the company at events.

Developing both senior and junior writers along with mentoring interns.

Contributing to the recruiting and hiring process.

Working with management team in developing the success of the company.

Previous experience as an editor for a weekly or daily newspaper.

Experience:

Great interpersonal skills.

Attention to detail.

Good decision-making skills.

Strong leadership skills.

Preferably knowledgeable about Colorado and El Paso County in particular

Hours:

Full-time, Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm.

Pay Range:

$75,000.00-$85,000.00 Annually DOE
