The Mineral Springs Foundation is an all volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Mineral Springs of Manitou Springs. The Foundation is governed by an all volunteer board of directors, and funds raised through grants and donations go directly back into the community’s most unique resource.

The mineral springs in Manitou Springs, Colorado, are a vital part of what makes this area special. A group of committed volunteers formed the foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, in 1987. Since then, they have worked countless hours stewarding these precious resources. Their mission is “to restore, protect, and publicize the natural mineral springs and to document their historic origins.”

The many accomplishments of the Mineral Springs Foundation include:

  • Acquisition and restoration of the city’s historic mineral springs
  • The development and placement of interpretive signs
  • Legal actions to ensure the springs remain protected
  • Development and distribution of educational materials
  • Scientific studies of the mineral springs aquifer

Eight mineral springs have been restored or developed by the foundation in collaboration with the City of Manitou Springs and private landowners. They are not only unique resources, but also are historic landmarks and major attractions to the region, providing an economic boon to Manitou Springs and the surrounding areas.
