A juried show based off the inspiration of Helen Frankenthaler’s work.
Cottonwood is thrilled to announce a juried show for November, composed of artists of all mediums, coming from within Cottonwood and from across the region.
These artists have taken inspiration from Helen Frankenthaler, a post-WWII painter who throughout the duration of her career changed the modern take on abstraction with her invention of her soak-stain technique.
Frakenthaler’s work from the 1950’s onward forever changed the worlds expectations of abstract art, shifting it from traditional abstract expressionism to to color field painting. Incorporating elements of figuration and landscape composition into her execution, her work uprooted expectations of abstraction and forever expanded the boundaries of her discipline.
Working within the parameters of her brand of inspiration while avoiding direct imitation, the artists of this show bring you their interpretation of our modern world through the lens of Helen Frankenthaler, with the results being an illuminating and exciting collection to view.
