Young Chautauqua

Presented by Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum at Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum

If you could spend a morning with Amelia Earhart, Albert Einstein or Robert Kennedy, who would you select? We'll help you decide as student scholars present authentic portrayals and peek into the lives of iconic figures from our country's second century...including little known secrets!

The public performance of Young Chautauqua Experience 2016 will be held on Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum located at 215 S. Tejon Street in Colorado Springs, 80903. Everyone is invited and admission is FREE.

The presentation is the culmination of months of preparation by students from the Academic Arts Academy at Eagleview Middle School and Manitou Middle School. Under the auspices of Colorado Humanities, student performers have been immersed in their characters through primary research, coaching, art experiences and conversation to bring you the authenticity and factual content that embodies the Young Chautauqua Experience.

Young Chautauqua brings history to life for middle and high school students and their audiences. Through monologues and question-and-answer sessions, students present an authentic first-person portrayal of their chosen character. The audience plays an important role in this interactive experience designed to educate and entertain people of all ages. The rich tradition can be traced back to the Chautauquan movement of the 1800's. To date, over 2,000 students in the state have participated
