The owners of the Warehouse hired Douglas Rouse to paint a new mural on three walls (east, north and south) of their building in 2011. Douglas’s realistic style makes one feel that the arches painted on the walls are really there and not just a smooth surface. The artist and his wife are portrayed as Greek style statues on the west wall. The couple toasting with Champaign are celebrating their 50 wedding anniversary and are actual clients of the artist. The man with a boy on his shoulder is the artist’s father with his “little brother” from the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. All the persons depicted on the north and east walls are connected to the artist in various ways and include the artist’s mother and a good friend. See below for additional photos.
